There were turkeys everywhere at the inaugural Savage Family Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, which started at Bug Light Park in South Portland. The headgear was impressive (turkey legs, turkey feathers, chefs hats and, my favorite, a pumpkin pie hat) and maybe helped keep the chill out. But despite the cold temps, hundreds turned out for this Thanksgiving Day race, created in honor of Nathan Savage, who died this past summer while training for his first Ironman. Today would have been his 40th birthday. There were some tears before the race, but lots of smiles, too. Nathan would certainly be proud.
