Nicolle of DoryWoman Rowing welcomes experienced rowers and the row-curious to join her on the water all year. But the full moon rows are particularly wondrous.
Ice climbing gives us regular, feet-on-the-ground humans an opportunity to scale rock faces like gravity-shirking super heroes. Put some crampons on our boots, a couple of axes in our mitts, and we can do anything! During a sunset or full moon canoe tour on the Scarborough Marsh, you'll get a sunset (and maybe a moon rise) on the water, in a canoe, at a place that's supremely scenic and filled with all sorts of marsh wildlife, with a knowledgeable guide who can name all the birds and the fish and even point out some planets in the night sky.
Between the beaver spottings, the calm, winding waters of Pushaw Stream, and the big, bright moon lighting the way, a full moon paddle at Hirundo Wildlife Refuge is something special.
Kayak to Jewell Island for a camping overnight with Portland Paddle. You'll explore towers and island trails, eat dinner over a campfire, and doze off to the sound of lapping waves. It's a summer dream-come-true.
Stunning views of coastal Maine (including the fort at Colonial Pemaquid) viewed from the wonderfully buoyant seat of a sea kayak during a tour with Maine Kayak.
Learning to ice climb is an exciting prospect. Intimidating, too. But even a first-timer can be taught to swing those axes like a boss during a climb with Acadia Mountain Guides.
